Efter det verdenskendte band The Rasmus sidste år repræsenterede de blå-hvide farver i Torino, så skal vi her til aften t finde ud af hvilken artist, der skal gå i fodsporene på Lauri og co. til Eurovision Song Contest 2023 i Liverpool.Den finske finale Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2023 – eller bare UMK 2023 – afholdes i Logomo i Turku med Samu Haber fra gruppen Sunrise Avenue som vært.
Sidste års vinder The Rasmus vender tilbage til UMK for at levere pauseunderholdningen sammen med sidste års 3. plads BESS, som endte med at have årets største hit i Finland på både radio og streaming med “Ram Pam Pam“. I aften optræder hun med sin nye single “Lähtee käsistä“. Derudover har værten Samu at gå på scenen og levere et nummer.
Vinderen findes i en seer- (75%) og international juryafstemning (25%).YLE havde åbent for indsendelse af sange tilbage i september og blandt 363 bidrag har en jury af musikprofessionelle under ledelse af YleX’s musikchef Tapio Hakanen udvalgt de 7 sange til UMK.
De syv sange, som deltager i UMK 2023, har allerede opnået mere end 13 millioner streams samlet på Spotify alone, 2 sange har ligget nummer 1 i Finland og 6 sange i Top 5.
Ifølge bookmakerne så er Käärijä og sangen “Cha Cha Cha” den helt store favorit til at vinde billetten til Liverpool med odds 1,1 i skrivende stund. Tætteste konkurrenter ifølge bookmakerne er Portion Boys og Kaira.

Keira — “No Business On The Dancefloor”
UMKs yngste deltager på kun 17 år. Keira Lundström stormer ind på den finske musikscene med debutsinglen “No Business On The Dancefloor”. Keira Lundström er kendt fra The Voice of Finland og nævner Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat og K-pop-grupperne BTS og Stray Kids som hendes inspirationskilder.
Benjamin — “Hoida mut”
Dancing With The Stars-vinder Benjamin er klar til at indtage UMK-scenen med sit nummer “Hoida mut”. Benjamin startede sin internationale karriere i 2014, da hans debutsingle “Underdogs” indtog hitlisterne over hele Europa. Han begyndte at synge på finsk i 2018 og fik et nummer 1-hit med singlen “Naarmuja”.
Robin Packalen – “Girls Like You”
En af Finlands største pop-superstjerner får sin længe ventede UMK-debut. I 2012 fik Robin Packalen allerede 13-årig succes med sin første single. Når han ikke arbejder sin sin musik, dyrker han ekstremsport. Robin har længe overvejet at deltage i UMK, men valgte at vente til, han følte sig klar.
Lxandra – Something to Loose
Lxandra, også kendt som Alexandra Lehti, er et af Finlands mest lovende talenter. Som 19-årig flyttede Lxandra til Berlin for at arbejde på sin musikkarriere og fik opmærksomhed fra flere store navne i musikbranchen, og hendes numre er blevet benyttet i både amerikanske film og tv-soundtracks.
Käärijä – “Cha Cha Cha”
Käärijä får sin UMK-debut med “Cha Cha Cha” Han udgav sin debutsingle “Urheilujätkä” i 2016 og har fulgt Eurovision, siden han var en lille dreng, og har Verka Serduchkas “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” som en af sine favoritter. Efter at have fulgt UMK i mange år, følte Käärijä nu, at det var på tide at give sit bud på en Eurovision vinder.
KUUMAA – “Ylivoimainen”
KUUMAA består af Johannes Brotherus, Jonttu Luhtavaara og Aarni Soivio,der startede som et band i 2016. De udgav deres debutalbum i 2019 og karrieren tog fart i 2022, da deres numre “Tulipalo” og “Oo viela sekunnin mun” blev store hits på radiostationer rundt i Finland.
Portion Boys – “Samaa taivasta katsotaan”
Med en karriere, der strækker sig over mere end et årti, er partybandet Portion Boys et kendt band i Finland. Deres megahit “Vauhti kiihtyy” fra 2021 gjorde, at de for alvor blev et populært navn på den finske musikscene. Portion Boys består af Kenraali Vahva, El Meissel, A.P. Vuori, JaloTiina og Taitelija Nieminen. Gruppen skabte deres navn som en reference til svenske fødevarer.

- Robin has a trick with the microphone and they have plan B as well
- His 2012 guest performance in UMK was more exciting than this
- He has a tramboline in the show as it’s something very “live”
- He thinks UMK is the best organized TV production in Finland he has been in

Kuumaa
- Lot of details in the performance, although it looks simple. The idea is from “Sehnsucht” and echoes and this is the visual representation of it
- A few weeks before UMK they received an EMMA Prize (Band of the Year)
- Comparison to the band A-ha. The song was born in a few hour, they had no reference song or any idea beforehand
Käärijä
- he feels like Kimi Räikkönen
- He is 90 % happy about his rehearsal
- He feels like conductor on the stage
- He tries not to think about being a pre-favourite
- Idea came partly from Rammstein, show has been a collaboration with UMK team
- He first had a black suit for the final, but people wanted to have the green one so he kept that
- He says he would win Loreen in ESC because of his sympathetic personality
- The Song is about self-liberation, not needing alcohol to party
- 500 fan t-shirts sold
- He is surprised to be favorite, just was thinking it will get attention
Keira
- More exciting with her own song and to show the personality
- K-pop idols, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Lua Dipa as her idols
- Light show as wow effect, K-pop style
- She moves more than last year in The Voice, then they could only practise for a week, now longer
- She has lots of people supporting and helping her through insecurities, family support, learning from other artists to remove the stress
- Most important to enjoy being on stage
Benjamin
- He wants a show that he can carry and looks like him
- Energy from the audience

- He is excited about the technique
- Cool to perforn in his home town
Lxandra
- Focus on correct emotions on stage, hopefully transferred on tv as well
- Show describes the feeling of the song, also visually, therefore lots of details
- She has lots of gigs during the springtime, no big plans
- Her song was written last year, important to her what it all is visually as well

Portion Boys
- Idea for the drums is their own
- Great to get audience going and to get smile on peoples faces
- Being themselves, being genuine is the point
- Five different personalities in the group
- Idea to run to the audience is what they normally do in gigs, they want to party with ppl
- So they wanted the same in UMK
