The Dutch entry for Eurovision in 2010 is called Ik ben verliefd is sung by young Sieneke. For this number the stage is lit in all the colours of the rainbow and a very prominent prop has been placed on the stage: a model of a traditional Dutch street organ. Three backing singers are placed on the right of the stage and two further people are taking the role of barrel organ puppets.

This joyful number brings a lot of colour to the second semi-final and Sieneke gives a perfect vocal performance of this song you can’t help to sing along to.

Her vocal run through was excellent. She is joined on stage by 3 female backing singers, and a huge organ, on which there are 2 people , a man with a drum and a woman with a stick and a bell. I think they are meant to represent wooden dolls. The organ is illuminated and the stage colour is golden, while the backdrop is mulitcoloured, yellow , red, green.

The song starts with a close up of the 2 ‘dolls’ on the organ twirling slowly around before moving to Sieneke. Vocally, there are no problems but camera shots need work, as Sieneke looks a little lost on stage. I think we need more closeup shots of her. This improved as the reheasal progressed but I still think they need improving.

A good start to the rehearsal day. I think Netherlands should be happy with their first rehearsal.

Sieneke and her entourage of three backing singers, a man and a woman pretending to play toy instrumentals and a giant barrel organ are using some of the best lighting effects of the week, loads of orange and green transforming into rainbow ccolours. Sieneke finally looks like she’s enjoying herself and is actually selling the song. It’s fun, it’s instant, but will it travel well to juries and Eastern Europe. Bar a few choreography changes (I’d have Sieneke appearing from behind the organ and later leading a “parade” of singers for the chorus) this is as good as it can get but I don’t see this qualifying. Neither would I totally rule it out.

Andrew:

This is great fun and makes me smile from ear to ear.

We have the organ , we have the backing singer and we have two dancers who act as doll by the organ.

Great vocals and they had a good rehearsal.

Folklore prop for Sieneke and this song is definitely waking you up. It’s your morning alarm. Vocally Sieneke (who’s dressed simply) is OK not that the song needs something special in terms of voice. But there is nothing special, nothing impressive.

So far I though Finland will be the null points country this year. Now I am struggling with this one. This is totally wrong choice for the Netherlands. The camera work cannot even help this song and performance. The only good is the lights of the stage which are like a circus, meaning that’s exactly what this entry deserves.
